Can Cats Eat Potatoes

Can cats eat potatoes?  The answer isn’t as simple as yes or no!

Plain, cooked potatoes in small amounts are generally safe—but they don’t offer much nutrition for cats. Raw potatoes, however, are a big NO.  They contain solanine, a toxin that can be dangerous to cats.

And what about fries or chips?  Also a no-go!  Salt, oil, and seasonings can upset their stomachs or even cause health issues over time. But here’s something interesting—some commercial cat foods contain potato as a filler. 

While not harmful, it’s not something cats actually need. Cats are carnivores and their bodies are built for meat eating, not veggies! If you want to give your cat a treat, go for protein-packed options like a little cooked chicken or healthy cat snacks from the supermarket or pet store.

So the answer to can cats eat potatoes is it's not advised. While a tiny bit of plain potato won’t hurt, it’s far from the best choice for your feline friend!
